Für die zeitgeschichtliche Analyse populärkultureller Phänomene wird ein Mehrwert transnationaler Perspektiven gern behauptet, aber selten empirisch eingelöst. Dieser Band versammelt hingegen Fallstudien, die ausnahmslos mehrere Länder betrachten und konsequent vergleichs-, transfer- und verflechtungsgeschichtlich angelegt sind. Sie fokussieren Musik und Film, Fernsehen und Radio, Zeitschriften und Comics, Jugendkultur und Mode. In the last few years, the society is witnessing ever-growing levels of complexity in the optimization paradigms lying at the core of different applications and processes. This augmented complexity has motivated the adoption of heuristic methods as a means to balance the Pareto trade-off between computational efficiency and the quality of the produced solutions to the problem at hand. The momentum gained by heuristics in practical applications spans further towards hyper-heuristics, which allow constructing ensembles of simple heuristics to handle efficiently several problems of a single class. In this context, this short book compiles selected applications of heuristics and hyper-heuristics for combinatorial optimization problems, including scheduling and other assorted application scenarios.

This book presents state-of-the-art technical contributions based around one of the most successful evolutionary optimization algorithms published to date: Harmony Search. Contributions span from novel technical derivations of this algorithm to applications in the broad fields of civil engineering, energy, transportation & mobility and health, among many others and focus not only on its cross-domain applicability, but also on its core evolutionary operators, including elements inspired from other meta-heuristics. The global scientific community is witnessing an upsurge in groundbreaking, new advances in all areas of computational intelligence, with a particular flurry of research focusing on evolutionary computation and bio-inspired optimization. Observed processes in nature and sociology have provided the basis for innovative algorithmic developments aimed at leveraging the inherent capability to adapt characterized by various animals, including ants, fireflies, wolves and humans. However, it is the behavioral patterns observed in music composition that motivated the advent of the Harmony Search algorithm, a meta-heuristic optimization algorithm that over the last decade has been shown to dominate other solvers in a plethora of application scenarios. Der Siedlungshügel Tall Zirā’a, im Wādī al-‘Arab in Jordanien gelegen, war mindestens 5000 Jahre lang ohne Unterbrechung besiedelt und gewährt einzigartige Einblicke in die Lebenswelt der Menschen jener Region. Eine artesische Quelle in seiner Mitte hat über Jahrtausende optimale Siedlungsbedingungen geschaffen, weshalb der Ort von besonderem archäologischem Interesse ist: Er bietet die seltene Möglichkeit, eine vergleichende Stratigraphie Nordjordaniens von der Frühbronzezeit bis zur Islamischen Zeit zu erstellen und damit kulturelle Entwicklungen im städtischen Leben, im Handwerk und in der Religionsgeschichte über lange Zeiträume hinweg nachzuverfolgen. Zudem können reichlich vorhandene Überreste aus biblischer Zeit in einem weitgefassten kulturellen und historischen Kontext untersucht werden. Im Rahmen des »Gadara Region Project« haben Archäologen zehn Jahre lang am Tall Zirā’a gegraben. Die Ergebnisse der Grabungssessionen werden in geplanten neun Bänden in englischer Sprache präsentiert.

Das vorliegende Werk "Lernwerkstatt als Prinzip - Möglichkeiten für Lehre und Forschung" greift als dritter Band der Reihe "Lernen und Studieren in Lernwerkstätten" die Frage nach den Möglichkeiten des Prinzips Lernwerkstattarbeit als produktivem Moment hochschuldidaktischer Entwicklungen auf. Aktuell existieren kontrovers diskutierte Bemühungen, die Ausbildung von angehenden PädagogInnen und ErziehungswissenschaftlerInnen in einen engeren Praxis- sowie Forschungszusammenhang zu stellen. Hierbei nehmen Lernwerkstätten als Hochschuleinrichtungen eine zentrale Rolle ein. Trotz diverser Formen und Grundlagen werden Hochschullernwerkstätten von einem grundlegenden Verständnis geeint: Lernwerkstattarbeit als Prinzip. In den Beiträgen dieses Bandes loten die AutorInnen das Potenzial von Lernwerkstattarbeit für Lehre und Forschung im Wissenschaftskontext facettenreich aus.
